The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the appointment of Dr Vish Govender as Head of Department (HOD) within the province’s Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI).
Dr Govender has already demonstrated strong leadership while serving as acting HOD. His permanent appointment now provides stability and continuity for the department, ably led by MEC Martin Meyer.
The DPWI plays a critical role in managing public assets, maintaining government facilities and ensuring that infrastructure investment supports economic growth and service delivery across our province. Effective leadership at administrative level is essential.
During his time as acting HOD, Dr Govender showed a clear commitment to improving accountability, strengthening oversight, and ensuring that the department’s mandate is delivered more effectively for KZN’s people.
The DA looks forward to working constructively with Dr Govender and the DPWI to ensure that KZN’s public infrastructure is properly maintained, strategically used and leveraged to support job creation and economic growth
