– DA uMzinyathi welcomes new members in Endumeni, Ward 7.

– DA condemns political intolerance after public meeting was disrupted.

– Commends SAPS for swift response.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in uMzinyathi is proud to announce that we welcomed new members at the Sithembile Community Hall in Ward 7, Endumeni.

This is a demonstration that communities are eager for accountable governance, effective service delivery, and a government that puts people first. It was a success despite disruptions.

We further strongly condemn the disruption of this community meeting due to political intolerance. It is deeply concerning that the disruption was allegedly led by a former Ward 3 councillor of the Endumeni Municipality whose party membership was revoked and whose removal as a ward councillor has subsequently been confirmed.

Such conduct undermines democratic principles and the constitutional right of communities to freely assemble and participate in political activities without intimidation or interference.

Thirty-two years into South Africa’s democracy, it is both disappointing and unacceptable that there are still areas that some individuals seek to regard as “no-go areas” for certain political parties. Democracy can only flourish when all political organisations are able to engage communities freely, peacefully, and without fear.

As we approach the 2026 Local Government Elections, the DA calls on all political parties and their supporters to commit themselves to political tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. Electoral competition must be based on ideas, policies, and service delivery not intimidation, disruption, or attempts to silence differing political views.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) who responded swiftly and professionally to the situation. Their intervention helped restore order, prevent further escalation, and ensure the safety of community members in attendance.

The DA remains committed to building a united, inclusive, and democratic society where every resident has the freedom to associate with the political party of their choice without fear or intimidation.
