The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ugu South welcomes the visit by newly elected Provincial Leader, Sithembiso Ngema, to our communities.
During his Ugu South leg of the tour, he addressed members, activists, and community leaders as part of the DA’s ongoing campaign to engage residents and build support ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections.
The visit comes at a critical time for the people of Ugu, who continue to face severe service delivery challenges. Communities across the district have endured years of recurring water shortages, aging infrastructure, deteriorating roads, sewage spillages, and economic decline resulting from poor governance and a lack of accountability. Official municipal planning documents acknowledge that aging water infrastructure, water supply deficits, and sanitation failures continue to impact residents and local businesses throughout the district.
Addressing the gathering, he reaffirmed the DA’s commitment to fighting for reliable service delivery, transparent governance, and economic growth. He highlighted the party’s track record of standing with communities and holding government accountable when it fails to deliver.
The DA has consistently raised the alarm over Ugu’s ongoing water crisis, which has left thousands of residents without reliable access to clean water. The party has led petitions, engaged national and provincial authorities, and demanded urgent intervention to address delays in critical infrastructure projects affecting more than 190,000 residents across the region.
The DA has also actively campaigned for the rehabilitation of collapsing road infrastructure, mobilising residents, submitting petitions, and demanding action from government departments responsible for maintaining critical transport networks that support local communities and the tourism economy.
He also used this time to encourage residents to register and participate in the democratic process.
The people of Ugu deserve better than empty promises and collapsing infrastructure. They deserve a government that works, delivers basic services, creates an environment for jobs and investment, and respects every taxpayer’s contribution. The DA remains committed to being that alternative.
As the election campaign gains momentum, the DA will continue engaging communities across Ugu South, listening to residents’ concerns, presenting practical solutions, and building a government that puts people first.
