The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Endumeni welcomes the appointment of Advocate A.A. Khambule as Acting Municipal Manager on a month-to-month basis.
Advocate Khambule has been officially seconded to the municipality by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), and her appointment brings a measure of administrative certainty to a municipality that has suffered from prolonged dysfunction.
This decision follows sustained oversight and pressure from the Democratic Alliance, and it marks a victory for the residents of Endumeni who have endured far too much at the hands of an unstable and poorly managed local government. It is clear that without the DA’s persistent intervention and demands for accountability, this matter would have continued to be ignored.
We further welcome the inclusion of the DA on the official panel that will oversee the shortlisting and interview process for the appointment of a permanent Municipal Manager. This ensures that the voice of reason and good governance will be present in this crucial process. His participation will help guarantee that this appointment is guided by principles of merit, competence, and transparency.
While this is an important breakthrough, the challenges facing the people of Endumeni are far from resolved. The municipality continues to suffer from service delivery failures, crumbling infrastructure, and severe financial mismanagement.
The DA remains resolute in our commitment to fight for ethical, accountable, and responsive governance. We will continue to place pressure on the municipality and offer constructive alternatives to ensure that the residents of Endumeni receive the services and dignity they rightfully deserve.
