The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mooi-uMngeni has written to KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Bheki Ntuli, requesting his swift intervention in the lawlessness and violence that has engulfed the N3 National Highway.

We are extremely concerned by the violent incidents which have occurred on this important national artery. Slow action to resolve the matter will only cause detrimental effects on our already stagnant economy.

There have been numerous reports of trucks being pulled off of the road, drivers having their belongings stolen, looting, as well as trucks, being petrol bombed.

Millions of Rands worth of goods have been lost, drivers fear for their lives and the knock-on effects on the economy will be devastating.

It is quite clear that the ANC government has lost control over many sectors of our society. This has been seen in growing incidents of farm murders, increasing land invasions, the flagrant breaking of regulations by the taxi industry, and the increasing number of truck attacks, to name a few.

The country is not only suffering from Covid-19 and the collapsed healthcare system but, law-abiding South Africans must suffer the effects of an incapable state led by indecisive and uncaring leaders.

We cannot let this form of economic sabotage continue. Law and order must be restored. Lives must be protected. Economic stability must return.
