ANC councillors in KwaDukuza once again aided by deployed and increasingly unaccountable officials, deliberately collapsed the sitting of the Finance Portfolio Committee last week. This was a blatant act of political sabotage, despite the DA’s relentless push for the meeting to proceed with the quorum and representation that was present.
Out of the 56 outstanding items on the agenda, 37 could have been resolved today, as they required only the input of officials who were already in attendance. The refusal to proceed exposes just how far the ANC is willing to go to paralyse governance for political gain.
The ANC’s dysfunction, along with the conduct of errant officials that the Municipal Manager, Nhlanhla Mdakane, clearly cannot or will not control, is dragging KwaDukuza’s finances and service delivery into collapse.
As the DA, we will not be drawn into the ANC’s internal political games. Our focus remains firmly on restoring governance, ensuring financial oversight, and delivering services to the people of KwaDukuza. The business of local government must continue, regardless of who fears accountability.
