The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaDukuza has written to the Municipal Manager, Nhlanhla Mdakane to request a special council sitting to deal with the memorandum of demands from the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU).
The SAMWU initiated strike came to an end on Friday the 9th of May. We are pleased to note that municipal operations have resumed. We are however concerned that the resolutions and agreed upon demands remain shrouded in smoke and mirrors.
As such we have written to the Municipal Manager to request the following:
-A date for a sitting of special council/ EXCO to deal with the memorandum and demands that have been met
-A copy of the 2022 resolution of council pertaining to grading, details of which have now found expression in the public domain
-A comprehensive response on the role of the ANC provincial leadership in addressing KDM staff on a labour matter, and the possible infringement on staffs political rights
Decisions in KwaDukuza cannot be made unilaterally, and we encourage due processes to unfold, in order to ensure that the long outstanding issue of grading is resolved for the staff to be compensated fairly.
