The DA welcomes the swift and capable response by eThekwini emergency services following an emergency aircraft landing earlier today near Virgina airport.

The incident, which took place some two kilometres south of the airport itself involved a two-seater aircraft. While the cause of the emergency landing is not yet established, Civil Aviation Authority will investigate.

The DA welcomes the immediate response by eThekwini Fire department, local ambulance services, SAPS, Metro Police and environmental authorities.

Miraculously, there has been no loss of life, nor is there any indication of environmental damage. This is largely due to the quick-thinking of the pilot and his skills. South African trained pilots are some of the best in the world and the aversion of a major disaster is testimony to this.

The critical role of first responders in our province cannot be over-emphasized, whether on our roads or in the air. The DA remains committed to ensuring that these valuable teams are properly equipped to assist KZN’s citizens in their hour of need.
