The DA extends its well wishes to KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) matric class of 2024 ahead of the first official National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination paper on 21 October.

Recently, the DA embarked on a matric examination state of readiness tour throughout the province. This, in an effort to troubleshoot key issues affecting KZN’s worst performing schools in last years’ NSC exams and to assess interventions to this regard.

While crime and vandalism are the leading issues plaguing teaching and learning at these schools regrettably, interventions by KZN’s Department of Education (DoE) to date remain minimal to non-existent.

The DA’s findings during the recent tour will be made available to Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, KZN Education MEC, Sipho Hlomuka and the public next week. Both the department and our schools must put the rights of our children first if they are to have every opportunity to succeed.

As we count down to the 2024 NSC examinations, we appeal to KZN’s communities to support the DoE’s efforts in ensuring a peaceful and productive examination period. The department can only do so much. It will take a whole-of-society approach to ensure our province obtains favourable results in the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations.
