The Democratic Alliance in KwaDukuza has noted an alarming trend within the Civil Engineering business unit, where officials are blatantly refusing to acknowledge correspondence from councillors .
Despite ongoing recommendations of the Portfolio Committee, Infrastructure and Technical, in relation to credible and comprehensive reports pertaining to disaster funded projects, there appears to be a glaring unwillingness from the civil engineering business unit to present credible reports.
The recently deployed Executive Director for Civil Engineering, Thembela Nxumalo and his officials who use the Civil Engineering Department as a playground for political and personal patronage are undermining the role of the section 79 oversight committee and thus hamstringing our effectiveness.
Should officials continue to display this resistance to provide the requisite information and abscond from committee meetings, we will be exploring actions to hold them accountable.
