The DA notes the suspension of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) HOD, Sboniso Majola, by government of provincial unity (GPU) Premier Thami Ntuli.

While the Premier would not disclose details of the allegations against Majola, he has indicated that they are serious enough to warrant drastic action.

The suspension, which took place late last week, is concerning. The DA is, however, confident that it will not delay MEC Martin Meyer and his department as they strive to implement long overdue measures to turn our province around.

We welcome the MEC’s commitment to transparency and his assurance that the DPWI will co-operate fully with all authorities to ensure a swift and comprehensive probe into these serious allegations.

The DA believes in the principle that an individual is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. We hope that this matter will be resolved as a matter of urgency and that the rule of law will be upheld.
