KwaDukuza’s leadership vacuum

The Democratic Alliance in KwaDukuza has noted with concern that the ANC deployed Mayor, Lindi Nhaca has been recalled. While the prerogative to deploy remains solely that of a political party who are struggling to hold on to power, the factionalism and inability to govern with stability is going to compromise service delivery to the people of KwaDukuza.

The current status quo in the KwaDukuza Council is that there is no Mayor or Deputy Mayor.

Section 53 of the Structures Act clearly determines the roles and responsibilities of political office bearers. In addition to these responsibilities, there are various legislative and compliance matters delegated to the Mayor. Despite the ANC’s inability to govern, the Democratic Alliance is perturbed by this vacuum in the KwaDukuza Council.

We will be compelling the Speaker of Council to convene an urgent special council meeting in order to ensure that the mandated responsibilities of council are not compromised by a political party who simply cannot get their house in order
