The DA condemns in the strongest terms the situation that has been unfolding in Mpophomeni. This after the Premier Nomsa Dube did not follow due process or pay the correct deposit for an Imbizo set to take place on Saturday.

The ANC took it upon themselves to illegally enter the Mpophomeni stadium. The stadium had been locked and secured for a pre booked event to take place on Saturday.

This type of behaviour typifies what the Province of KwaZulu-Natal has come to expect from the ANC.

Today saw the ANC uMgungundlovu District Mayor Mzi Zuma and various other ANC councillors storm uMngeni Municipality, Mayor Chris Pappas’s vehicle at the stadium. Eyewitnesses confirm that the ANC District mayor was part of instigating the attack on the Mayor Pappas’s car.

The Mayor’s car sustained visible damage during the attack however the swift action of the Mayor’s protection team and driver was able to remove the Mayor from the hostile situation.

The opportunistic allegations by the ANC Moses Mabhida Region that a child was knocked down and had to be rushed to hospital in a hit and run accident is both false and libel. Clearly once again this type of behaviour from the ANC shows sheer desperation.

The DA will now pursue a criminal investigation into the unfounded, opportunistic allegations and illegal entry into the stadium.

The DA will never be intimidated by the Premier of Kwazulu-Natal and her henchmen. We will continue through our effective governance performance in uMngeni to expose the dismal failure by the ANC. No amount of intimidation or ANC propaganda will stop us.
