The DA in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature welcomes the election of Dr Imran Keeka, MPL as the First Additional Member of the KZN Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
The appointment was made earlier today during a Sitting of the provincial legislature, which included the KZN CPA Annual General Meeting.
The importance of the CPA’s role cannot be over-emphasised. It supports and promotes democracy, good governance and human rights within Commonwealth countries by fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among its member parliaments and legislatures. It further aims to strengthen parliamentary institutions, enhance parliamentary practice and promote the values and principles of the Commonwealth.
The DA has no doubt that Dr Keeka will excel in his new role. A veteran politician, having served as an MPL since 2014, he is also the KZN Legislature Chief Whip.
Dr Keeka’s vast institutional knowledge, along with his exemplary service on numerous portfolio committees – including that of current KZN Health portfolio committee Chairperson – all bode well in his new position.
The DA wishes Dr Keeka well in his new role. We are confident that he will continue to uphold the DA’s values of a free, fair and open opportunity society for all.
