The DA in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) welcomes the resignation of suspended KZN Public Works and Infrastructure Head of Department (HOD), Siboniso Majola.
The former HOD was suspended in August last year after corruption allegations emerged. The allegations were deemed to be of a serious nature, prompting Premier, Thami Ntuli, to act accordingly, and authorise his suspension.
The DA believes in the principle that an individual is presumed innocent until proven otherwise and we trust that Mr Majola has been given the opportunity to present his case through the correct channels.
His decision to resign – without the conclusion of due processes – appears to validate the Premier’s earlier actions in suspending him.
The DA, as a partner within KZN’s Government of Provincial Unity – remains committed to ensuring transparent and accountable governance. There can be no room for corrupt officials more interested in furthering their own interests than those of the people of our province.
KZN’s Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI), led by MEC Martin Meyer, has made significant progress during the past year, with an improved audit outcome as confirmed by the Auditor General. With a team of committed and accountable officials, the DA looks forward to even better performance levels.
