The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini notes the appointment of Themba Mvubu from the EFF as the Chairperson for human settlements, engineering and transport.
Mvubu was appointed today during an Executive Commitee meeting.
He previously held the same position when he was first appointed in February 2023 before he was recalled this year for underperforming.
His poor performance that had led to last year’s poor state of readiness to welcome tourists during the festive season due to the collapse of infrastructure that resulted in many beaches in the city being closed and a loss in tourism revenue.
His appointment today was backed by the ANC, EFF and IFP.
This is the same ANC that released a statement after he was recalled and referred to him as “clueless and out of depth”.
These parties have made it clear that they have no intention to better the lives and state of our city. They continue to give each other power and line the pockets of a select few at the expense ratepayers.
It is absurd that he is being appointed exactly around the time when the municipality needs to be salvaged so we are able to welcome tourists for the festive season.
The DA will be monitoring the City’s readiness for the festive season to ascertain whether or not this is about power or if he can redeem himself.
