The ANC-led KwaDukuza municipality continues to use public funding for veiled campaigning.

An accelerated service delivery programme has been approved by Council to fast-track service delivery blockages. This programme is being funded from various operational votes and is valued at R8.45 million.

While it may appear to have good intentions of delivering services to residents of KwaDukuza, a quick look through the programme reaffirms the recent leaked recordings of the ANC Cabinet meeting.

It cannot be a coincidence that the MEC will attend a festival costing ratepayers over R400 000 on Freedom Day, in a province where support for the ANC has never been lower, and that is to campaign.

Similarly, a programme with the MEC of housing promising 1 000 housing units on the 24th of May, a mere 5 days before elections can only be seen as desperate campaigning.

The residents of KwaDukuza deserve a government that delivers at all times, and not just in the run up to an election.

The Democratic Alliance will continue to expose and highlight veiled campaigning, no matter how these programmes are packaged.
