I refer to my press statement of 7 September 2025.
The statement indicated that Fleet Africa should account to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature (SCOPA) for its role in the RT46 Fleet Management contract which has led to the collapse of ambulances and emergency medical vehicles in KwaZulu-Natal.
The sense of urgency demanded by this dire situation led to me to call for the investigation of the RT46 Fleet Management contract through the processes of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) in the KZN Legislature.
In researching the RT46 transversal contract, I discovered that Fleet Africa was a participant in the contract.
For that reason, it was named in the press statement.
The statement was motivated by a deep and genuine concern for the residents of KZN requiring emergency medical care.
I have subsequently been made aware that the scope of Fleet Africa’s obligations under the RT46 contract are limited to vehicle booking, and do not include vehicle maintenance.
I have also been made aware that Fleet Africa’s participation in the contract is limited to work in Gauteng.
For those reasons, I accept that there is no evidence that Fleet Africa has contributed to the dire state of the provision of ambulances and emergency service vehicles in KZN.
I unconditionally apologise to Fleet Africa for including it in my press statement of 7 September 2025.
I also retract any reference to Fleet Africa as contributing to the fleet management crisis in KZN. I have re-issued the press statement without the reference to Fleet Africa.
