The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Msunduzi issues an unequivocal demand for the immediate rescission of the irregular and unlawful appointment of the Deputy Municipal Manager for Community Services (view letter here).
The DA has given the Mayor, the Speaker, and the City Manager until Monday to rectify this unlawful decision.
Should this matter not be addressed and reversed by the stated deadline, the DA will initiate formal legal proceedings for review and hold all responsible parties to account including seeking personal cost orders against the three.
The DA has proven that we will not hesitate in dragging the municipality to court just as we did after Msunduzi’s unlawful decision to provide sponsorship against ROYAL AM.
The Mayor and his Troika have repeatedly failed to uphold good governance and the rule of law, and as such, must be removed with immediate effect. The City Manager, whose conduct has been both unlawful and unethical, must also face the consequences of his actions.
Furthermore, the MEC for COGTA has usurped his authority by intervening in municipal administration in a manner that contravenes both the Municipal Systems Act and the Constitution. His reckless involvement in Msunduzi’s internal affairs has further destabilised the institution, and he too must be held accountable for his role in this crisis which we are currently reviewing.
The DA will not stand by while Msunduzi collapses under corruption, cadre deployment, and nepotism that benefit only a politically connected elite.
We stand firm in defence of transparent, lawful, and accountable governance, and we will pursue every legal and oversight mechanism available to restore integrity and stability to the City of Msunduzi.
