The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the decision by the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, to spend Women’s Day with the community of KwaDukuza Ward 16 this past weekend.

This special occasion was not only a celebration of the resilience, leadership, and achievements of women in our country, but also an opportunity to reaffirm the DA’s commitment to empowering women in every sphere of life, from community leadership to economic participation.

DA Councillor, Nerish Singh, has been serving as the de facto ward councillor in Ward 16, consistently working with residents to resolve service delivery issues, assist with community programmes, and ensure that the DA remains a visible, reliable force for change. His dedication has set the standard for what responsive, accountable leadership should look like in KwaDukuza.

Women’s Month in iLembe is a reminder that the fight for equality, safety, and opportunity for women is far from over. In many of our communities, women remain at the forefront of households, often juggling the roles of breadwinner, caregiver, and community leader, all while navigating systemic challenges.

We believe that women must take a leading role in shaping the future of KwaDukuza. In 2026, we have the opportunity to make KwaDukuza a DA-run municipality. A municipality that values integrity, service delivery, and economic growth. The leadership of women in this mission is not just important, it is essential.

As we honour the women who marched in 1956, we also call on the women of KwaDukuza to lead the march towards real change in 2026. Together, we can build a municipality that works for all.
