The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Msunduzi has written to the Municipal Manager, Nelisiwe Ngcobo,to request a progress report on the waterlogged area behind Regina Road and Aurora Place.
There are natural springs in this area. During heavy rains, settlements collapse, and people are left homeless. In 2022, many families were affected and had to be housed in Truro Hall. This was the last time any of the affected families received relief from the municipality. During the recent heavy rains, homes collapsed, and residents received no relief despite numerous pleas and follow ups.
Recently, illegal structures have been built on the mountains, and the land is now moving. This will be a catastrophe should these homes collapse. The land is soft and sinks as you walk on it .
Since 2019, residents have been writing to the municipality to resolve this issue. It has been six (6) years, and there has been no sign, or any attempts made to assist these residents. The ANC leadership during a by -election visited these properties and made several empty promises.
There has been no sense of urgency from the municipality regarding this matter. Poor governance only impacts the citizens of this city and can no longer be ignored.
