The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Msunduzi has written to the municipal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) representative, Mr. Ndebele to call for his urgent intervention over technical failures that have been hindering Council proceedings, including today’s council meeting, for far too long without any improvement or action.
We are further calling on the Acting City Manager to take corrective measures and implement consequence management on the relevant department and its officials responsible for the technical failures.
The city speaker tried to manipulate and mislead council by reading out irrelevant source of document about Virtual meetings in order to ignore the call to adjourn the meeting and reconvene virtually within the stipulated timeframe.
DA councillors walked out of today’s council meeting due to its clear non-compliance with legal and procedural requirements. The meeting was rendered unlawful and invalid due to critical technical failures, including the non-functional recording systems, inadequate translation services, and a malfunctioning PA system.
These issues severely undermine transparency, accountability, and the ability of all councillors and the public to fully participate.
Spaza shops in the city are run better than the Msunduzi council.
The DA remains committed to upholding the rule of law and the principles of good governance. We will not lend legitimacy to proceedings that disregard these standards and compromise democratic processes.
We call for the immediate rectification of these technical and procedural shortcomings, and for the meeting to be reconvened in a manner that fully complies with legal and constitutional obligations.
