The Democratic Alliance (DA) condemns the majority of political parties in the Msunduzi Council—including the IFP, EFF, PA, and their allies—for rejecting the DA’s Rescue Plan and choosing to endorse the flawed and unsustainable R7,9 billion 2025/26 municipal budget.
By voting against the DA’s practical, costed and people-centred alternative, these parties have become complicit in the ongoing decay of our municipality. They have chosen political expediency over principle and have failed the people of Msunduzi.
This budget contains:
– No credible plan to restore basic services,
– No strategy to fix our R8 billion debt crisis and, no investment in infrastructure, safety, or economic recovery.
Yet despite this, the IFP, EFF, PA and others voted to continue the status quo — one defined by corruption, crumbling infrastructure, job losses, and collapsing services.
Let it be clear; they are now part of the problem.
The DA offered a bold alternative through our Rescue Plan, which included:
– Section 139(5) intervention by National Treasury,
– Clean governance and lifestyle audits,
– Public-private partnerships to restore key services,
– Smart infrastructure investment, and
– A 0% tariff increase—with only a moderate 3.2% rise for water and electricity, if transparently justified.
But instead of supporting this vision of recovery, the majority of Council parties chose to shield mismanagement and failed leadership. Their silence and complicity have consequences, and residents will hold them accountable.
The DA will not stop fighting for the people of Msunduzi. We will continue to expose failures, table alternatives, and work with communities to demand real change.
Msunduzi deserves better — and the DA remains the only party with a credible plan to deliver it.
