The Democratic Alliance (DA) uMngeni Local Municipality welcomes the official launch and handover of a new Coding and Robotics Laboratory at Sibongumbomvu Combined School in Emandleni, Merrivale.
The handover was done yesterday by the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, the DA’s Solly Malatsi MP. This vital investment in a quintile 1 school forms part of the Department’s broader mission to close the digital divide and equip young South Africans with future-focused skills.
The uMngeni Local Municipality had also previously engaged with the school that led to the municipality providing WiFi connectivity to the school in 2024. When a staff member from the Minister’s office then approached the municipality in search of a school to assist, Sibongumbomvu was a natural choice.
This partnership reflects the very best of good governance — when National and Local Government collaborate meaningfully to uplift local communities together with private sector partners.
The DA’s track record across provinces and municipalities consistently shows that where we govern, we deliver and we care.
The Minister’s visit also included a stop in Hawkstone to monitor the ongoing rollout of subsidised set-top boxes, recognising local resident, 103-year-old, Gogo Nompinqo Lesia Ngubane for her participation in the Broadcasting Digital Migration programme.
This is what can be achieved where the DA is in government: responsive, inclusive, and people focused on opportunities for all, most importantly our youth and vulnerable citizens.
