The Democratic Alliance in KwaDukuza finds it unacceptable that the newly deployed ANC Mayor and Deputy Mayor have insisted on utilising hired vehicles including BMW X5’s, while the municipality has a fleet that was purchased for use by political office bearers.
The DA has recently written to the Municipal Manager, Nhlanhla Mdakane, to establish how and why expensive hired vehicles are being allocated to the newly elected Mayor, Muzi Ali Ngidi and the Deputy Mayor, Njabulo Cele, instead of using available vehicles which were already purchased for the executive. While the Municipal Manager chooses to ignore our written request for information, the ceremonial Mayor embarks on his 100-days campaign in a hired vehicle that is inevitably going to result in wasteful expenditure.
As the Municipal Manager ignores our written requests, the Democratic Alliance will now turn to the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for CoGTA, to invoke consequence management against officials who are involved in this rental car scandal. We cannot accept that for every new Mayor luxury vehicles must be hired, when the municipality already owns a fleet.
The DA will continue to hold the ANC to account, to stop the wastage of public funds that should be allocated for services to the people of KwaDukuza.
