The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal today attended the court hearing of the man allegedly involved in the murder of late DA uMngeni Chief Whip, Councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu at the Howick Magistrates Court.

The accused abandoned his application for bail and has therefore been remanded in custody to appear this coming Thursday, 28 November 2024.

Despite very credible and detailed investigatory outcomes against other individuals, from an independent investigation into this murder, the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Presidential task team into political crimes are not doing enough to arrest the real masterminds behind this crime.

The DA has been actively cooperating and as best as possible assisting the investigation, but the non-cooperation of the Presidential task team into political killings is of great concern and must be corrected.

There seems to be no willingness to work with our team.

The DA will now be taking this stalemate up directly with President Cyril Ramaphosa, and with the Minister of Police, Minister Senzo Mchunu and the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Minister Thembisile Simelane.

This will ensure that individuals against whom evidence has already been uncovered are swiftly arrested, allowing for the process of justice to follow its course, bringing closure for the family of Councillor Nhlalayenza.
