The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ulundi has written to the Municipal Manager, Mr. Sandile Khomo requesting answers on the stolen and now recovered municipal road grader, found in KwaMashu.

According to the information at our disposal, this grader was allegedly parked at a councillors house in eNhlungwane. Information at our disposal reveals that the suspect who stole the grader pretended to be workers from the municipality.

The DA takes this incident very seriously and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

The DA has since written to the Municipal manager requesting the following information.

1. Why was the stolen municipal road grader parked at the councillors house?

2. Does the municipal road grader and all other municipal assets have a working tracking device? If so, why was this grader not intercepted when it left the municipal boundaries?

3. How many municipal vehicles have been stolen between January 2021 to July 2024?

a. How many recovered?

b. How many have not been recovered?

This grader like any other municipal asset belongs to the people of Ulundi Municipality and therefore the municipality has got a great responsibility to safeguard such assets.

It is unacceptable that such a big and valuable public asset, that is meant to work in the area and fix roads in communities is easily stolen. There must be accountability.
