The Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (DAWN) in KwaZulu-Natal would like to express our deepest and sincere condolences following the gruesome death of three people from Phoenix.

According to reports, a father shot and killed his wife and 3-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself.

In the wake of the heart-wrenching tragedy our hearts go out to the family and community affected by this incomprehensible loss. As we mourn the devastating loss of lives, including the most innocent among us, it is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address the underlying issues that lead to such tragedies.

This incident not only leaves a void in the hearts of those directly impacted but also sends shockwaves through our community, highlighting the critical importance of mental health support and the need for effective mechanisms to prevent domestic violence. It underscores the necessity for all of us, as a society, to foster an environment where individuals feel supported in seeking help before a crisis occurs.

I commend the swift response and professionalism of the KZNVIP, SAPS CPF, and all emergency service providers and security services who were present at the scene. Their dedication under such traumatic circumstances is a testament to their commitment to our community’s safety and well-being.

As we process this tragedy, let us come together to support the bereaved and affected individuals, offering our compassion, understanding, and assistance in their time of need. Let us also renew our commitment to working collaboratively towards creating safer communities, where violence is not the answer, and where support systems are accessible to all.

In this moment of sorrow, let us remember the lives lost and pledge to honor their memory by dedicating ourselves to the prevention of such tragedies in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and everyone touched by this tragedy, and we pray for healing and peace in our community.”
