Four schools in infamous Taylors Halt robbed in one night

The DA in Msunduzi today calls on the MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka, and the MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer to urgently ensure safety measures including the calling for greater police visibility at the Taylors Halt area following a spate of school robberies in which four schools were targeted by criminals in one night early last month,had their equipment stolen.

Taylors Halt was also on the news following the killing of eight people who were burned to death. It has become a haven of crime and unsafe for the vulnerable.

In this latest incident, it is reported that when the school principals reported the incident to the Taylors Halt police station as a serious crime, they were told police were not available as they were attending the funeral of their colleague.

Zuzulwazi Secondary School, renowned for its excellent matric results, has become unsafe for both learners and teachers, the future of our children is on the line. The Department of Education needs to act urgently by providing security personnel that will always ensure safety at these schools.

In late April, grade 12 and grade 11 learners from Zuzulwazi Secondary School were attacked at gunpoint, and their belongings were taken. Another learner was stabbed, and until today, she has not returned to school out of fear for her life. The police did not follow up on both these case
