Today, 14 March 2023, DA KwaZulu Natal (KZN) Leader, Francois Rodgers MPL and DA KZN Spokesperson on Health, Edwin Baptie MPL will lay criminal charges against striking National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) officials.
The move follows the union’s direct involvement in the circumstances under which a pregnant young Pietermaritzburg woman, Thandokuhle Mlotshwa, tragically lost her life last week. She did not receive swift medical attention following a hit-and-run incident.
The DA wrote to Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, the KZN Health MEC, Friday last week, requesting that she file charges within 72 hours. That deadline has passed, and the DA will now act in the best interests of the people of KZN, whose constitutional right to quality healthcare must be upheld.
Details are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 14 March 2023
Time: 14:30pm
Venue: Loop Street SAPS, 231 Jabu Ndlovu Street, Pietermaritzburg
Members of the media are invited to attend. There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
