The DA in eThekwini has written to the Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda and the Municipal Manager, Mr.Musa Mbhele to request reasons on why Operation Good Hope (OGH) meant for a DA Ward was at last minute allocated to an ANC Ward.
Operation Good Hope, is an initiative by the eThekwini municipality spearheaded by the Mayor that is allocated to wards within eThekwini, where the municipality would for a week focus on service delivery issues in that ward.
For about six weeks, the service delivery coordinator for Ward 30 and DA Councillor, had been discussing and planning for (OGH) focus week. This after provisional approval had been given weeks ago by the municipality, subject to the final approval of the planned program being given in the week before implementation.
On the evening of Thursday, 08 September 2022, we received confirmation that focus week had not been approved for Ward 30 but instead for ANC Ward 101.
We have requested clarity on the following:
(a) furnish reasons, in writing, why the Operation Good Hope focus week was not formally approved for Ward 30 during the period 12 to 15 September 2022; and
(b) ln writing, provide the dates on which the rescheduled OGH focus week will take place in Ward 30.
Much planning has gone into preparing for the OGH focus week, and in identifying the issues to be dealt with during this period.
It is a slap in the face for the residents of Ward 30, to be told that municipal resources would be directed away from them to the ANC’s Ward 101.
Municipal resources should not be reserved for political gimmicks and ratepayers should all have equal access to services rendered by the municipality.
As the DA, we will continue to fight for reliable service delivery for all residents.
