The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature has today officially welcomed former DA Ugu North Caucus Leader and Councillor, Edwin Baptie.
Baptie was sworn in by KZN Legislature Speaker, Nontembeko Boyce, earlier this morning (view here). The move comes after the departure of former DA MPL, Dr Rishigen Viranna who has been awarded a two-year scholarship to study Global Health in Sweden.
Edwin Baptie joins the DA KZN Legislature Caucus after having secured strong growth for the DA in Ugu North during his time as Caucus Leader since 2007. This as a result of a proactive and no-nonsense approach to ongoing challenges, in particular unprecedented water issues experienced by local residents during the past few years. Baptie has also served as Ugu North Constituency Chairperson since 2016.
The DA has no doubt that Edwin Baptie will make a significant contribution to our Caucus. His broad and varied experience at municipal level, with its many complexities, will be invaluable.
Baptie’s particular role within the Caucus will be announced shortly. The DA KZN Legislature Caucus looks forward to working with him as we strive to improve the lives of our province’s people.
