The Democratic Alliance is saddened by the passing of former eThekwini Councillor Avrille Coen. Avrille was a long-standing and well-known Councillor who represented the beachfront area over many years.

Avrille was first elected as a Councillor in 2004 and served until her retirement in 2016. Prior to that, she was a community activist who fought tirelessly for the North and South beach communities.

Avrille was known for her gentle but determined manner, her kindness and generosity and her playful sense of humour. She was deeply committed to Durban and to the mission of the DA, and worked hard well into her seventies.

The DA extends its sincerest condolences to her family and friends, especially Avrille’s beloved husband Claude- to whom she was married to for 58 years- and her two children.

May her soul rest in peace.
