Following sustained pressure from the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Midlands, the Mpophomeni clinic in the Mooi-uMngeni Constituency will receive a brand new generator valued around half a million rand.
This comes as the DA has been chipping away at the inefficiencies and problems faced by the Howick, Mpophomeni and Mpofana clinics for the past year. We have received many complaints from patients who use these facilities and has responded by utilising the tools available to us to try and resolve some of these challenges.
Initially, the DA had partnered with community organisations and concerned citizens to raise money and purchase a generator to assist the Mpophomeni clinic where nurses were using their cell phones during load shedding and load reduction periods. After the Department of Health refused to accept the donation of the generator the DA continued on its campaign to bring better conditions to the clinic: especially for mothers who were sitting in a dark and cold maternity ward. We are pleased to announce that through our efforts the clinic will receive a generator valued at about R500 000. The Department of Health has confirmed that this should be installed by the end of December – a small victory in the fight for better healthcare for Mpophomeni residents see here
In the case of Mpofana, repeated DA oversight inspections had revealed a clinic in a state of disrepair where conditions were wholly unfavorable to deliver good quality services. The clinic is too small, lacks proper facilities such as toilets and storage for medical waste and is terribly laid out. Through our questions and pressure in the media, the Department of Health has confirmed that the clinic will be moved and that the process of identifying a new site is well underway see here.
This goes to prove that an effective opposition is one that not only highlights the shortcomings of the party in power but is also one that actively tries to fix problems. Although this can be difficult and there are immense challenges and obstacles, it is not always a futile exercise.
We are pleased that our efforts as a caring and people-centered party will result in the lives of people being improved. The DA in the Mooi-uMngeni Constituency is actively working to improve the lives of citizens and residents by holding the ANC government to account and driving issue that matter to all communities.
The DA in Mooi-uMngeni Constituency is proving once again that it is ready to govern. The people of Mpofana and uMngeni must put the DA to the test and see how we can bring real change and real hope.
