The Democratic Alliance (DA)  in uMhlathuze has learnt with great shock the news of the brutal and senseless killing of Zwelenkosi “Zwe” Zulu who was a prominent member of the LGBT community in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal. Zulu was brutally attacked at his home. It is alleged that two men brutally attacked him.

We send our deepest condolences to the Zulu family and his friends. We condemn this loss of life, and the continued killing of gay and lesbian persons in our communities. Zulu was an LGBTI+ activist and his death is a great loss to the community at large.

We call on the police to prioritise homophobic attacks against our community and continue the call for the enforcement of laws that already exist, and are there to protect the most vulnerable in our society.

The DA in King Cetshwayo will be visiting the family tomorrow, as well as the Police station.

We believe the police should do more to ensure those involved in Zwe’s killing face the full might of the law, and that such incidents are attended to as a matter of urgency. All lives matter. No person should live in fear.
