The DA extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of 54-year-old Rajendra Ramdan, who was found tragically murdered four days following his disappearance.
Rajendra was a quiet and reserved member of the Greytown community, with deep roots in the town. Those who knew him describe a gentle and compassionate man who was willing to assist others, particularly vulnerable members of the community.
His businesses had provided much relief for residents whom he employed and their families.
His death has understandably left his family devastated. It has also left the broader Greytown community in shock. A family that spent days hoping that their loved one would return home safely is now having to come to terms with his death and the deeply troubling circumstances in which his body was discovered.
At a time of profound grief, the Ramdan family deserves answers. The circumstances surrounding Rajendra’s disappearance and death must be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible must be held accountable in accordance with the law.
The DA calls on the SAPS to continue its investigation with the necessary urgency and diligence, while ensuring that the family is kept appropriately informed as the investigation progresses.
The loss of a member of our community is felt far beyond one family. It reminds us of the responsibility we all share to build communities in which people can live with dignity, security and peace of mind.
Our thoughts are with the Ramdan family, Rajendra’s friends and all those in Greytown who knew and cared for him. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time.
