The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal convened a special meeting of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) this morning to consider the Motion of No Confidence by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in the Premier.

The PEC has resolved unanimously to reject the motion as it is an attempt by the MKP to create chaos and instability in the province.

Furthermore, the PEC has recognised the immense work that the DA has achieved through our MEC’s, Francois Rodgers and Martin Meyer who have been on a drive to accelerate service delivery to the residents of KZN. It also reflected on the important work our Deputy Speaker, Mmabatho Tembe has played to ensure the legislature is a forum for open debate as well as broadening social participation in its programs.

The PEC also paid tribute to DA Portfolio Committee Chairpersons and the Deputy Chief Whip of the Legislature who have worked tirelessly to hold members of the Executive to account.

However, the PEC also resolved that the DA’s participation in the GPU is not without limits and an accelerated program of service delivery focusing on economic growth and job creation must take place. The DA will to intensify the fight against crime, eliminating corruption, as well as reducing fruitless and wasteful expenditure. The leaders of the different parties must foster a culture of mutual respect between GPU partners that leads to an enhanced program of action to further cooperation and a genuine willingness to compromise on matters. This is paramount to the longevity of the coalition.

The DA is committed to putting the people of the province first to ensure prosperity and opportunity to everyone who calls KwaZulu-Natal their home.
