DA to picket at Esikhawini SAPS after six-year-old allegedly raped at local school

Issued by DA Media –
17 May 2025 in Press Statements

On Monday, 19 May, the DA – led by DA KZN Spokesperson on Education, Sakhile Mngadi, MPL and Local DA Councillor Muzi Mtshali – will picket outside Esikhawini SAPS following the alleged rape of a six-year-old learner at a local school.

The incident, reported to the DA by the child’s mother, is believed to have taken place at Mizikayifani Primary School on 25 April.

Despite the horrific claim and the suspect allegedly being known to the victim, neither KZN’s Department of Education (DoE) or SAPS appear to have acted to date.

The DA will therefore deliver a Memorandum of Demands to SAPS and KZN’s DOE. We will insist on;

* The immediate removal and arrest of the suspect

* A full DoE inquiry into the school’s failure to report and act on this matter

* Trauma counselling and support for the victim and her family and;

* A comprehensive audit of KZN school safety and child protection protocols.

Details are as follows;

Date: Monday, 19 May 2025

Time: 10h00

Venue: Esikhawini SAPS (H1-385 Mabhengwane Street, Esikhawini, 3887)

There will be opportunities for photos and interviews.

We will speak. We will march. And we will demand justice. Because every day that justice is delayed is another day where the future of young girls is left unguarded.
