The DA in Msunduzi is calling for answers from the Council Speaker, Councillor Eunice Majola over the cancellation of the last Full Council of the year at the eleventh hour with no communication on whether it will be rescheduled.

We demand that a full investigation be implemented into the lack of responsibility and due process followed in terms of the cancellation.

It is alleged that the ANC in the Moses Mabhida region opted to cancel council so that they would be able to campaign for the hotly contested Ward 2 by-election in Sweetwaters, taking place next week Wednesday, 18 December 2024.

If this is true, it would be an insult to the residents of Msunduzi. A “win at all costs” agenda, comes at the expense of the City and its responsibilities.

The City of Msunduzi is in crisis, service delivery is at its all-time low, and the ANC who hold a slim majority with the help of some minority parties continue to push the City deeper into decay.

This City needs stability, galvanized leadership that puts the people first and not political interests. To the ANC, choosing to focus on a by-election over the work of council we must say: “Don’t make your problems, the problems of the people of Msunduzi”

We will not be held hostage by the ANC and its lack of respect for its own responsibilities to this beleaguered City.

The DA will continue to push for sound governance, stability and accountability to ensure that we get the Capital of KZN working.
