Note to Editors: Please kindly find attached letter of meeting request by DA eThekwini Caucus Leader, Cllr Thabani Mthethwa.

The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini has written to City Manager, Musa Mbhele, and Mayor, Cyril Xaba, to convene a roundtable sitting over the water supply crisis. For just over a week, areas such as Phoenix, Kloof, Hillcrest, Glenwood, Chatsworth, uMlazi, Amanzimtoti, among others have been without water.

The latest bout of water cuts comes as the recently elected mayor of the city, Cyril Xaba, promised to deliver interventions in the water crisis, including thorough investigations. Water supply remains an ongoing issue in eThekwini with no sustainable solution in sight.

To this end we have written to the city manager and the mayor, in his capacity as Exco Chairperson, to have an urgent meeting between DA Exco members, Umgeni-Uthukela Water Board and eThekwini Water and Sanitation. We hope that through this meeting a speedy solution can be achieved which will ease the frustration of the city’s ratepayers.

We expect an urgent reply with a secured date from the relevant stakeholders around the called for engagement. We also look forward to giving feedback to the many affected residents of this city.

The DA remains committed to fighting to ensure that the people of this once glorified city are afforded their rights as enshrined in the country’s democratic constitution.
