The DA welcomes the election of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) candidate, Thami Ntuli, as KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier under the banner of a provincial government of unity incorporating the DA, IFP, ANC and NFP.
We further welcome the re-election of Nontembeko Boyce as KZN Legislature Speaker and have full confidence that the provincial parliament is in good hands under her continued stewardship.
We are particularly proud of the election of DA MPL, Mmabatho Tembe, as KZN Deputy Speaker (view here). This is an unprecedented achievement for the DA in the province. We have no doubt that she will uphold the integrity of the institution, while making a valuable contribution in this crucial role.
Today, KZN has entered a new political era, with the calls of millions of citizens who voted for change having been answered. Thanks to their votes, we will no longer be an opposition party in KZN and will instead play a pivotal role in rescuing our province.
The DA is committed to working hard alongside its governance partners as we chart a new course aimed at improving the lives of all KZN’s people.
Above all, we will continue to uphold our country’s Constitution and the rule of law as we move into an exciting new chapter of hope for the future of our province.
