The Democratic Alliance in eThekwini can announce that the motion to dissolve the ANC-EFF coalition eThekwini Municipality will take place on the 14th of February 2024 (View here).
This follows relentless pressure from the DA and threats of legal action against the Speaker of Council, Thabani Nyawose, who tried to stall our duly submitted and legal motion which was filed on the 28th of November 2023.
Since our motion was submitted, we have seen all kinds of theatrics from the ANC, EFF and other opposition parties who have attempted to dismiss and even ridicule the legality of the motion. Today’s announcement vindicates the DA’s position that indeed the motion is competent and valid.
Next week, every political party will have two choices, they either support the current situation in the municipality which is riddled with corruption and maladministration, which has resulted in thousands of people being left without water for months on end, or they vote with the DA and millions of residents desperate to fix the city they so love and call home.
Now is not the time for political grandstanding, but a time to unite as political parties, civic organisations and residents of eThekwini to rescue our city from the disastrous ANC and EFF coalition.
The DA looks forward to this historic day and opportunity and invites all civic organisations and interested parties to join us at the council meeting.
