During an Integrated Development Plan (IDP) forum meeting held last week, uMgungundlovu District Mayor, Mzi Zuma revealed that only 1% of residents in the Impendle local municipality have access to water.

This is a startling static, almost 30 years into democracy, and the ANC has failed to provide residents with basic water. They are still expected to drink water from streams with animals. This is a disgraceful failure on the part of the water authority. The water shortages in the district have also resulted in failure to supply bulk water to 10 housing projects that has now brought these projects to a standstill.

We will conduct an oversight visit to Impendle to see what needs to be done to ensure that these residents constitutional right to water is upheld. We will raise their plight through council structures.

We have called many times for the municipality to focus on the core function of water supply, and stop all the extra, nice-to-have expenditure, which we still see in the budget or excessive wasteful and fruitless expenditure.

The 2024 National and Provincial elections provide residents with an opportunity to vote for a party that puts their interests first. The ANC that has excelled in lining the pockets of those that are politically connected, has time and again proven that they are not this party.
