DA calls for proactive engagement on crime following yet another shooting in Umhlanga

The DA in eThekwini has issued a resounding call for immediate intervention and proactive engagement by eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda and City Manager, Musa Mbhele, following yet another tragic fatal shooting in Umhlanga last night.

The escalating incidents of gun violence and open firearm brandishing are a cause for concern and need to be addressed urgently.

Despite multiple requests for a meeting to address the growing concerns of the community, the response from the Mayor and City Manager has been disappointingly inadequate.

The issues of unauthorized business trading, reckless road behaviour, and the alarming increase in firearm-related incidents have culminated in an atmosphere of lawlessness that has reached unprecedented levels in Umhlanga.

Once renowned for its tranquility, the area now faces challenges that demand immediate attention.

The DA in eThekwini urgently demands an in-depth, robust discussion to find effective solutions to the chaos that has gripped this vibrant community.

This multi-billion-rand node, referred to as the ‘new Dubai,’ by some, must regain its status as a safe and secure haven.

The Democratic Alliance eThekwini stands united in the pursuit of a safer and harmonious community.

As concerned representatives, we remain steadfast in our commitment of engaging with city officials to ensure the restoration of peace and security for all residents.
