The DA in Alfred Duma is appalled to learn that Councillor Abbas Warasally has returned to his council duties, despite the fact that he was suspended by the IFP in late February 2023 and fired as a councillor by their National Executive Committee on the 6th March 2023.
This is the same day the DA had petitioned the Municipal Speaker, Councillor Sithole to initiate an investigation into the very serious matter of “sex-for-jobs” allegations against the councillor.
While the DA has a co-operation agreement which supports the IFP in Alfred Duma Municiaplity on an issue-to-issue basis with items of similar values and principles, the DA finds the matter for a public representative who abuses their position for personal gratification or enrichment, to be of a very serious nature which does not coincide with the DA values and principles.
The DA believes in a fair process, however the recordings purported to be that of Councillor Abbas Warasally and a female employee of the municipality have done great reputational damage to the municipality and for this reason Councillor Abbas Warasally must be removed as a councillor.
