The DA in the City of uMhlathuze today calls on the municipality to prioritize the supply of cleaning chemicals to the Arboretum swimming pool to ensure that the pool remains a safe and enjoyable space for all.

The Arboretum swimming pool has been a popular destination for many people looking to beat the heat during hot summer days. However, recently it has become evident that the quality of the water in the pool has been severely affected by inconsistent and insufficient supply of chemicals. This has led to a situation where swimming clubs have had to spend their own funds to purchase chemicals in order to improve the water quality.

This situation is not only alarming but also poses a health risk to club members and members of the public who frequently make use of the pool. The pool is an important community resource, not only in Arboretum but the whole of Richards Bay, that provides a space for people to exercise, socialize, and cool off during the hot summer months. It is therefore imperative that immediate action is taken to address this issue.

The root cause of the problem is delays in the supply chain management processes of the chemicals needed to maintain the water quality. This inconsistency in supply has led to lapses in the maintenance of the pool’s chemical levels, resulting in poor water quality.

The Arboretum swimming pool is a public facility that is owned and managed by the City of uMhlathuze. It is their responsibility to ensure that the pool is safe and properly maintained for public use. It is essential that the City take immediate steps to address the chemical supply issue and to resolve the challenges faced within its Supply Chain Management section to prevent any further deterioration in water quality.

We cannot afford to compromise the health and safety of those who use this important community resource.
