The DA in the City of uMhlathuze has written to the Municipal Manager, Mr. Nkosenye Zulu to request for more water tankers to be dispatched as communities go for weeks without water.
Thousands of residents in the uMhlathuze Municipality remain without water since mid-December with no end in sight to the water woes.
Several wards including Ward 10, 11, 30 and 34 have since 23 December, not had water – with little to no supply from water tankers. This comes in the wake of devastating strikes and public unrest due to water reticulation issues dating back to 2021.
Whereas the wards have had some water supply, the region remains devastated by a lack of water reticulation. Swathes of the Northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal remain without a drop as government has failed in its constitutional mandate to make potable water accessible to citizens.
The DA will continue to fight for larger district budgets, the proper implementation of projects and staff who properly maintain our infrastructure.
Ongoing water outages after 29 years of democracy are a clear indication of a failed state.
