The DA in Endumeni Local Municipality has written to the Municipal Speaker, Councillor Andile Nsibande, to request an Emergency Council meeting to engage on the current water outages and form a delegation to meet with the uMzinyathi District responsible for the provision of water.
This as communities in both Glencoe and Dundee have been without water for several days, and the municipality has not given any updates on when water service would be restored. Additionally, the municipality has not supplied water tankers. These communities are now in a state of uncertainty, and it’s unclear when services will return to normal. Unfortunately, councillors have been criticized by the community while councillors themselves are being kept in the dark.
This is the second incident in the municipality in just over three months. Then too, there was no transparency. The communications department failed to update the community at regular and consistent intervals.
It is time that the uMzinyathi District takes responsibility as a service provider for water and sanitation. We cannot have communities go for days without running water and with no water tankers provided.
