The DA in King Cetshwayo District today calls on the Municipal Manager, Philani Sibiya to come clean over multimillion rand fleet contract.

On 01 July 2022 in terms of Rule 24 of the Standing Rules and Orders of council, the DA submitted a written question (view here) requesting the Municipal Manager to give answers to the portfolio regarding a fleet contract awarded for delivery of fleet vehicles to Council.

Two Corporate services portfolios have passed since the letter was submitted, last week Wednesday the DA further asked clarity on the status of the question and a response we have grown too familiar with was that feedback awaits the Municipal manager’s signature.

This contract was awarded to a company that subsequently failed to deliver on the specifications of the tender and the contract of the then supplier and unsuccessful bidder was extended to run on a month-to-month bases until this company could acquire the vehicles required by council.

Seeing the lack of delivery of vehicles and the administration’s refusal at portfolio level to respond to cost of payments made to the two contracts now under fleet, the DA in King Cetshwayo wrote to the Municipal manager for answers.

The refusal of the Municipal Manager to come clean regarding the contract and the terms associated with it, is concerning. The DA further has questions about the process that allowed awarding the contract to a bidder with no capacity at the time to supply vehicles.

The DA calls upon the IFP led Municipality to come clean on this contract and furnish Council with a response so we can hold those accountable, responsible.
