The eThekwini Municipality has released its economic relief and recovery proposals for the City. The Mayor, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, outlined the economic interventions proposed to ensure that the city’s economy could recover from the devastating effects caused by the hard lockdown and the economic downturn in the country before the lockdown.
The City’s proposed economic relief measures will provide some relief in certain sectors of our economy. However, as the DA in eThekwini, we believe that the proposals are short on detail and that there is room to further expand on what has been offered.
324 000 jobs are on the line and drastic action is needed.
As a city, we have an opportunity to take bold and innovative steps to ensure that as many sectors within our local economy benefit from any governmental support and interventions specific to eThekwini.
The DA is, therefore, heeding the calls of the President and is proactively providing inputs and solutions to the city.
We would like to encourage all businesses and citizens to complete this short questionnaire so that we can accurately and comprehensively represent the interests of the businesses and citizens of the city.
The questionnaire will also provide a vehicle for the business community to share new ideas stemming from their specific experience.
All the data obtained from the questionnaire will be used to assess trends and conditions, advance understanding, test theories, develop policy recommendations or business strategies, and compile a comprehensive set of proposals that will be submitted to the city.
The questionnaire is available on the “DA EThekwini Councillors” Facebook Page or from your local DA Councillor. The link is:

The coronavirus, as well as decades of mismanagement, have left our economy and city in a precarious state. The DA will continue to lead the fight to protect the city’s economy and jobs in this tough time.
